It's no secret that bad days happen to everyone. But what do you do when they happen? Do you just curl up in a ball and hope for the best? Or do you have a few tried and true strategies for getting through the day? If you're looking for some help, we've got you covered. Check out our top five tips for getting through tough times.
Acknowledge your current situation
Everyone has bad days, it's just a fact of life. We've all been there before and sometimes those bad situations seem to linger. To have the best experience possible while dealing with these less than desirable times, the most important thing is to acknowledge them and be realistic about your current situation. It's not helpful or effective trying to paint over the issue or act like life is great in order to just look at the bright side- sometimes bad days are just that, bad days. We must be mindful though that although they may extend beyond one day or even week, many will pass quicker than expected.
Know your current situation will pass
Do you remember one thing that happened to you last year that you were struggling with? , Take two minutes right now to think about it…..OK, Maybe 20 seconds? Bad situations pass on their own Chances are the situation is gone now and you don’t even think of it anymore. Bad days are a pesky nuisance, and it can be difficult to remember that they’re always temporary. Difficult moments in your life come and go—all you have to do is wait them out, never give up hope, and know that things will get better soon enough.
Sometimes just turning up and getting through is enough
Despite our best efforts, it's a well-known fact that no one can be highly functioning all the time. Our natural rhythms of sleep and recovery sometimes get forgotten or lost among life's chaos. It's totally normal to have those days where you feel sluggish and off-color; after all, acceptance is often the first step in tackling these days head-on. One way to triumph over bad days is to accept them for what they are, but also realize that oftentimes just showing up and getting through can be enough.
Give yourself some time to relax and de-stress
Taking some time to relax and de-stress is the perfect way to get through those bad days that inevitably pop up in life. Taking the pressure off yourself to be at peak performance one hundred percent of the time can often help you to improve your attitude—because let's face it, bad days only account for around 10-20% of our lives (sometimes more or less, depending on the day). So don't sweat it when a bad day sticks its head out from under the carpet; just give yourself some time and space to relax a bit and get back into your regular groove of things.
Exercise or any movement is very useful
Try holding a pen in your hand. It's not heavy, right? Try holding it for one week though and one can see that sometimes it's the little things that can be the most tiring, especially when they are constant.
Exercise helps to mop up any adrenaline and increases those feel-good hormones. Exercise and indeed any movement (gardening, going for a walk) helps with personal achievement, meaning when you finish your workout, you will feel an increased sense of self-worth and be better equipped to handle life’s many ups and downs - including those bad days.
Bad days happen to everyone, even if you're a well-adjusted and mentally strong person. The most important thing is acknowledging how you feel in the moment, knowing that it will pass, and sometimes just getting through it is enough.
